Green Tips: Live In Harmony With Nature
For generations human kind in the mostly industrialized nations has been living against nature instead of in accordance with nature. As a result of our total disregard there has been poor air quality, a rise in chronic and fatal diseases, polluted water, overflowing landfills and a disappearing ozone layer just to name some of the tremendous damage that we have inflicted on our planet. We see the effects everyday in our neighborhoods, our schools and at our place of work. Scientist have published studies and the news media has informed us of our negative impact on the environment, yet most people continue their daily lives without giving a second thought to their contribution of the destruction of our planet.
There are many critics out there trying to justify their behavior by stating for example that the ozone layer depletes naturally yet what they neglect to mention is that our lifestyle has sped up the natural cycle manifold. The critics will also tell you that our water supply is safe, that we have state of the art filtration systems in place. However, recent tests of the drinking water supply in major cities within the United States of America have revealed levels of multiple prescription medications in our drinking water. I could go on and on but I think you are getting the idea.
There are a lot of things that we can do in our daily lives to conserve resources, reduce pollution and to leave the planet a little better than we found it for the next generation. Simple things that each and every one of us can do that will improve our daily lives, positively impact our health and our spiritual well being.
Here are a few simple things every one of us can do:
1. Instead of hauling yard waste and kitchen scraps to the landfill, compost them and improve the garden.
2. Check with the local recycling center to see which items they will accept and recycle cans, plastic, paper, etc.
3. Turn out the lights and turn off appliances when not in use.
4. Replace light bulbs with more energy efficient LED bulbs.
5. Insulate the home to prevent energy loss.
6. Turn off water when not in use.
7. Use a rain barrel to collect rainwater for yard and garden use.
8. Stop using paper plates, paper cups and plastic forks.
9. Combine trips to the store, bank, etc into one trip.
10. Reduce the use of chemicals in the home and garden and use natural alternatives instead.
11. When purchasing new vehicles or appliances, factor energy efficiency in to the buying decision.
12. Purchase products made from recycled materials whenever possible.
13. Donate used household items and clothing so they can be reused by someone else instead of filling up a landfill.
Most of all what we can do is tell our neighbors, our friends, our families, our co-workers and spread the word. Make a difference! We can live more in harmony with nature then against nature. Let’s leave this planet in better shape than we found it so our descendants can enjoy a much healthier and more productive life.
